Learn More About Our Hawaii Tinnitus Treatment

The Only FDA-Approved Treatment Option for Tinnitus Is Proper Brain Stimulation!

There are so-called cures for tinnitus out in the world today that range from pills to surgery, but there is a reason these treatments remain unapproved by the FDA (Food & Drug Administration) – they simply do not work. At Family Hearing Center, we have dedicated our efforts to fighting tinnitus with an FDA-approved therapy that has been clinically shown to reduce or eliminate ringing in the ears. Our experienced team is proud to provide risk-free Hawaii tinnitus treatment to help you combat the noise in your ears.

Tinnitus Explained by Dr. Keith Darrow, Ph.D., CCC-A, Audiologist & Doctor of Speech and Hearing Bioscience and Technology

What Is Tinnitus?

Tinnitus is defined as a sensation of sound in your ears, or sometimes in your head. Each person with tinnitus has a different experience: patients have described sounds that range from ringing to whooshing to the sound inside of a seashell.

Tinnitus is experienced by 80% of people with hearing loss. Some of these people only notice their tinnitus in a quiet room, whereas many others experience the sound all day long. Whether you experience tinnitus intermittently or constantly, we understand how much it can interfere with your daily life.

What Causes Tinnitus?

The prevailing theory on why people with hearing loss experience tinnitus is called the ‘Central Gain’ theory. According to this theory, the sound you hear in your ears or head is the result of a loss of proper stimulation present in normal hearing individuals. In other words, because your brain is not properly stimulated by the ear, the brain attempts to make up for the missing stimulation, which results in over-exciting your system. This neurological phenomenon has been likened to ‘phantom limb’ experience.

How Can You Treat Tinnitus?

Fortunately, there is a safe treatment option available today. In fact, the only FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved treatment option for tinnitus is to provide your brain with the proper stimulation. There is no pill, no surgery, no other available option approved to treat tinnitus. Today’s treatment options are available for people with hearing loss, as well as for individuals with normal hearing. Most patients who undergo tinnitus therapy report a significant reduction in their daily tinnitus experience. Some even say the ringing disappears completely during the day!

Came in yesterday for my mother due to an ad invite for a new hearing device and instead got more than we came for, a thorough ear/hearing tests and insurance options expert advice without sales pitch hint. Dr. Wesley Nakamura's patience and knowledge made us feel comfortable and he genuinely wants to help us, putting our best interest first. Neat and clean office with super friendly staff! Too bad Yelp only got 5 stars when I could easily give it a 10! Thank you Wes and the staff !!! Aloha! - Andy andy hawaii 5 star review
I took a hearing test there and had the best experience ever! Dr. Nakamura is really generous, friendly, and heartwarming. He made sure if I felt comfortable when I am in the small room for the hearing test. He knows well with hearing aids and he fixed feedback of my hearing aid like in 5 minutes. The feedback bothered me for a long time but it got so much better. He speaks Japanese very well, too. I would definitely come back to here if I ever get a problem with my hearing aids. Thank you so much!! - Manae mane hawaii 5 star review
